Jay Silverberg MD, FACP, FRCP(C)

Dr. Silverberg is an endocrinologist, based at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as clinical and research training in endocrinology and metabolism. He joined the medical staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 1982.

Dr. Silverberg is a past Membership Chairman for the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and a member of the Education Committee of the American Thyroid Association. Dr. Silverberg was recently elected Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs of the Clinical and Scientific Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association. His previous positions included Director of the Postgraduate Training Program in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Toronto, member of the Nucleus Committee for Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Royal College, Coordinator of Continuing Health Education for the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Coordinator of Continuing Health Education for the Department of Medicine, and Acting Director of Continuing Health Education for Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Silverberg research interests include the following:

  1. Thyroid Disease including the impact of various treatments for hypothyroidism on mood and cognitive functions as well as the cost effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for thyroid cancer.

  2. Diabetes including novel treatments including inhaled insulin and drugs affecting the renal excretion of glucose (SGLT2 Inhibitors as well as methods to improve the translation of knowledge on health promotion and self-care in patients with type 2 diabetes.
